Nylon Mag Interview!

Posted on: March 17th, 2010 | Posted by: Camilla | 1 Comment | Posted in: Articles and Interviews, Projects, The Runaways

Kristen was interviewed about The Runaways by Nylon Magazine.

The duo tells us exactly what they think about Twilight fans and rock’n'roll fantasies.
The Runaways is about many things, but perhaps most importantly, it’s about the connection between Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, whose friendship boosted the band into short-lived stardom. Twenty-five years after they first jammed in a cramped trailer in the Valley, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning—the duo who plays them in Floria Sigismondi’s debut film, out this Friday—are filling their platform shoes, both onscreen and off. We caught up with the duo to learn how they first bonded and whether we can expect a solo album anytime soon.

How did you get into character—especially when it came to singing and performing the songs?
Dakota Fanning: [Singing] was something that I was a little bit nervous about, something that I’ve always been self-conscious about. So I was really excited to do it, because I knew I couldn’t have done it any other way—I just would have felt weird about [lip-synching].
Kristen Stewart: Luckily I had Joan [Jett] on set every day. There’s a lot of stuff on the internet that you can look at, there’s a lot of photos, and there’s a little bit of footage, so we really did need Joan and Cherie there in order not to tell a completely superficial—I would feel like a little doll walking around with black hair, I wouldn’t feel like I was actually playing Joan.

I was just talking to Joan, and she was saying how similar you are in so many ways.
KS: I think she thinks we’re incredibly similar, because I just played her in a movie. It’s so funny, because when we see each other now, I’m pointing out the differences. I’m like, See, I don’t normally do that!

Kristen’s “Eclipse” Trailer Reaction

Here’s another of MTV’s red carpet interviews with Kristen in which she gives her reaction to the Eclipse trailer.

MTV “The Runaways” Red Carpet Interview

Posted on: March 13th, 2010 | Posted by: Camilla | 1 Comment | Posted in: Articles and Interviews, Media, Projects, The Runaways

MTV talked to Kristen at the Los Angeles premiere of The Runaways about the things she did to get into character for the movie.

Taylor Lautner wearing a wig in the “Twilight Saga” isn’t anything new to fans of the franchise, but due to a Joan Jett haircut for her latest film “The Runaways,” Kristen Stewart also had to don a wig for “Eclipse.”

“It was fine. I’ve worn wigs before, just not with such … I just felt such a tactile thing with Joan [that I cut my hair for the role],” she told MTV News on the red carpet of “The Runaways” premiere. “She holds all of her energy in her hands. I can be Bella without my hair, but I couldn’t play Joan without.”

And while some teenage girls would not have been too eager to chop off their locks, Stewart said she didn’t have an emotional attachment to her strands. “I think Dakota was more emotional than I was, to be honest,” she said. “She, like, almost cried when I cut my hair. It was something I needed to do. I needed to feel the sweat coming down my face and, like, I needed to be able to touch it. I just needed to do it.”

Behind the Scenes of ‘The Runaways’

Posted on: March 11th, 2010 | Posted by: Camilla | No Comments | Posted in: Articles and Interviews, Projects, The Runaways

SPIN have posted their The Runaways set report online!

“Kristen, you are so hot!”

In the appropriately rank alley behind a small Los Angeles club called the Smell, Cherie Currie, former lead singer of the ’70s all-girl band the Runaways, yells out to ingénue-of-the-moment Kristen Stewart, standing a few feet away.

Currie could easily be referring to the actress’ body temperature: The midday July weather is sweltering, and Stewart, dressed head-to-toe in black leather for the role of Currie’s onetime bandmate Joan Jett in The Runaways, is wiping sweat from her forehead. Stewart is on a smoke break; beside her, Dakota Fanning, who plays Currie in the movie, munches on a veggie doodle. While two Twilight fans linger near a Dumpster down the block, hoping to glimpse the franchise’s stars, the paparazzi — who have hounded the production all month, much to writer-director Floria Sigismondi’s frustration — are absent on this, the second-to-last day of the shoot.

Currie is actually talking about how good Stewart looks as Jett, and indeed she does. Minutes before, Jett, also an executive producer, chatted privately with Stewart, their heads bowed, each with a raised hand grasping a chainlink fence, looking almost identical in all but age. (Also, the 51-year-old Jett’s ‘do is shorter than her 19-year-old doppelgänger’s era-accurate shag.) As Stewart gets ready to go back inside, she smiles awkwardly and says simply, “So was Joan.”

Kristen Stewart On Kissing Dakota Fanning: ‘I Wasn’t Allowed To Grope Her!’

Posted on: March 10th, 2010 | Posted by: Stephanie | 2 Comments | Posted in: Articles and Interviews, The Runaways

Lots of interviews and press coming in today! Don’t forget to see Kristen on Leno tonight! Check your listings.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. –

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning share a smooch in their new rock ‘n’ roll movie, “The Runaways,” but Kristen said one thing got in the way – the law.

“She was 15, and I wasn’t allowed to grope her,” Kristen, 19, told Access Hollywood on Wednesday at the press junket for her new rocker film. “I’m actually not kidding, there are major restrictions that I don’t remember [from] when I was younger.

“I don’t want to give anything way. It’s a really passionate, hardcore scene,” she continued. “No, it’s just a kiss. It’s not really a big deal.”

“It’s just something that happened in their lives,” Dakota told Access of the kissing scene. “In the script, it’s not like a big build up or something that they talk about afterwards.”

The two play teenage members of ‘70s all-girl rock act The Runaways, starring as the iconic Joan Jett (Kristen) and Cherie Currie (Dakota).

“It looks great in the movie, but we are not close to the musicians that they are,” Kristen said.

But the two loved looking like rock stars – and plan to share their outfits with the women who inspired the film.

“I loved the outfits, I kept most all of them,” Dakota said. “Cherie gave her corsets away and we had them remade for the movie, [so] I’m going to give her one and I think that will be really cool.”

“I gave Joan a leather jacket,” Kristen said. “I wrote all over the back of it.”

Interview: Kristen & Dakota Fanning Are Runaways

Posted on: March 10th, 2010 | Posted by: Stephanie | No Comments | Posted in: Articles and Interviews, The Runaways

The Runaways sees actresses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning take on the roles of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie for the music-fueled, coming-of-age story of the groundbreaking, all-girl 1970’s rock band.

The drama tells the story of two teenage Valley girls who become the heart and soul of the seminal all-girl band whose success impacted rock music history and paved the way for future generations of girl musicians. Instrumental to the young actresses’ ability to portray these women authentically was the fact that both Jett and Currie were on set and available to talk to.

At the film’s press day, co-stars Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, who also appear in the TwilightSaga films together, talked about tackling these roles, their own experiences with stardom and fans, and how much they loved their wardrobe.

Q: What was it like for you guys to get into playing Joan Jett and Cherie Currie? Kristen, you and Joan seem to have a similar energy, but Dakota, you seem so different from Cherie Currie. How was it to portray these women?

Dakota: I think it’s a huge departure from other roles that I’ve played, and me, in real life. It’s obviously very different from things that I’ve done before, and it will be different for people to see, but I like that. I like surprising people with different things that I can do. That’s what I love to do. And, I hope to do more roles like this, in the future.

Kristen: Me and Joan really do understand each other, and that’s a rare thing. Connection is not something that’s common, or easy to describe. But, I really actually think that we both have a lot of idiosyncracies and ticks that are really different. I don’t have her little things that she does. And, I also think that, especially based on when I did this movie and how much time I had to think about doing the movie before I went to go make it, I’ve done a lot of press within that time and I was sort of wearing her. People projected that onto me, a little bit. I really do feel like it was an easy thing to step into, and it wasn’t a huge departure, but I do feel a little bit like I was just in that head space and projected that a little bit.

Q: What was your working relationship with Joan and Cherie like?

Kristen: For me, I’m so thankful to both of them. We’re just lucky that this movie happens to involve them. You can make movies about public figures, but the fact that Joan wanted to be a producer and wanted to be on set every day and was so open about a time that was so important to her, it definitely says something about the people that they hired to play the parts. She easily could have just said, “Get someone else. I can’t tell this girl what I need to tell her.”

There were things that we needed to know that aren’t necessarily in the movie. Not details, but just personal reflections, like the way they feel about things. So, it was nice having them there. Also, it helped with the details ‘cause we can’t know how everything really happened and it would be really awful to try to make it up and fill in the blanks, when it can just be real. It was cool to be able to make it real.

Observations: Kristen Stewart’s musings from the Twilight zone

Posted on: March 4th, 2010 | Posted by: Stephanie | 7 Comments | Posted in: Articles and Interviews

What a great read! Thanks to kstewsbutt for the heads up on this!

Before the first Twilight movie in 2008, I was a much more open person. Now I spend a lot of time looking at the floor in public in an attempt not to get noticed. It can get a little boring. But whatever sacrifices I’ve had to make as a rising star, my job makes up for it a hundredfold.

I won the Orange Rising Star Award at the Baftas last week. As I stood on stage at the Royal Opera House, I felt overwhelmed – in front of all these industry people, whom I don’t just admire, but who are the foundation of what I want to do. It’s hard to explain how it feels being in the same room as Kate Winslet. Perhaps it’s similar to how a Twilight fan feels on seeing me in person.

Some people say I’m anti-Hollywood, but I’m really not at all. I just think it’s pretty weird to show up at things that you have no reason to go to. To go out just for the sake of it is plain ridiculous.

I’ve been asked a million times in interviews about being a role model. I don’t really like to consider it. I’m aware that people look up to me, but I am myself for myself and not for anybody else. I choose my work impulsively.

I’ve been walking around London in a hoody these last few days looking at all the old buildings. It’s all fine until a diehard fan notices your sneakers. But I can always see a crowd and turn around and walk the other way.

In terms of history, we have nothing in LA. Here you can feel Jack the Ripper lurking around every corner. It’s nicer here because there’s a sense that I’m a real person. Perhaps I’m more of a novelty. In LA I tend to get people who gawk at me like I’m an animal, take pictures and scream things at me. There’s no way of being open in public anymore. There’s a five-minute exchange every 30 seconds that prevents me from even buying a loaf of bread at the grocery store.

Noel Clarke Blogs About Kristen

Posted on: February 23rd, 2010 | Posted by: Stephanie | 6 Comments | Posted in: Articles and Interviews

I tweeted about this earlier, but it’s definitely a must-read, so I thought I should post it here as well! For those not familiar with Noel Clarke, he was last year’s winner of the BAFTA’s Orange Rising Star Award and he presented Kristen hers this year!

So I’m asked to be on the Orange rising star award jury after winning it last year and I’m glad to do that. We (The Jury) watch a hell of a lot of films and after weeks and weeks come up with the final five people and they’re announced.

Then of course Lots of other people chime in with their opinions about who should be on there, because there’s always people who think they know better, but that’s fine too, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

People want Tahar to win, they love A Prophet (I do too, it’s a great movie). People want Carey to win (She is brilliant in An Education, if you like the film or not). People want Jesse to win (He carries Zombieland and is great in everything he does) People want Nick to win, he has a huge following, is british, possibly the best young actor full stop and is gonna go far. And of course people want Kristen to win… But the only difference with her was this… As many people who wanted her to win, there were equally vocal people who absolutely didn’t want her to win. The other nominees didn’t have that animosity against them.

I said nothing. I couldn’t. I wasn’t allowed (and as most people know Nick Hoult is like a little brother I wouldn’t minded if he won. P.S that is not why he was nominated. he is that good) So why does it all bother me? Two reasons.

Joan also said the following about Kristen:

MCDONNELL: How was it working with Kristen Stewart, who plays you in the film? What did you tell her? How did she study you?

JETT: Well, I found Kristen to be through and through totally professional and just great to be around. I found us to be really, scarily similar, just in our physicality, the way we move through space. The first time we met was a little over a year ago, New Year’s Eve. She came to see us do a concert. We hung out for the whole day, and I just dumped on her about everything I could think about The Runaways-I mean, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I told her all that stuff and how much it meant to me. Then she went off to do New Moon, and I didn’t see her again until about two weeks before The Runaways thing started. But she is so authentic. The thing that came through to me was that it was important to her to capture it. She really wanted to nail it. So I gave her all The Runaways music that I could find; I gave her tapes of me talking. . . . When we were together prior to the start of filming, she was staring at me the whole time. And I was fine with it because I knew she was watching my posture, my mannerisms, everything I did, the way I hold my hands, just everything. And she really soaked it in. When we were hanging out together on set, it was like I had a mirror image. Even just sitting around, we’d do the same thing at the same time. It was just great-and it wasn’t creepy. It was wonderfully special.
