Low budget teen vampire movie, Twilight, is released in cinemas in the UK on Friday. Kristen Stewart, who plays one of the main characters Bella Swan, says she finds instant fame hard to deal with, it was fun working with British actor Robert Pattinson and that she has similar traits to her character.
Did you have any idea when you signed up for this movie how big it was going to become?
No. I mean, we knew that it had a really devoted fan base but we thought it was pretty small and thought it was exclusive. Like a culty thing. It’s a small studio and small budget. We all thought it was rather quaint. It’s a character-driven piece. We didn’t have a whole bunch of money for all the stunts and effects. We had no idea.There’s been all this madness following you in America on the promotional tour for Twilight. Did you find that easy or hard to deal with?
I’m really not good at it. Some people are great at it. It’s like the other side of the job. I can’t believe I have to do it. It makes it easier because I’m really proud of the movie and I’m a fan of the book as well.
So it’s weird to see people mainly my age flipping out over Rob [Pattinson] walking into the room. He shifts in his seat and they all just go crazy. It’s a little daunting.How do you deal with that? Do you take the mickey out of Robert all the time for the reaction he gets?
Oh my god. All the time. Constantly. It’s like, ‘Rob. Touch your hair again’.The two of you have an amazing chemistry in the film. Did you have to try out with a lot of actors before that?
I had four guys that I auditioned with. They cut it down to who they really liked. There was no question by the end of them. He [Robert Pattinson] was the last one to come in. He understood the character. He didn’t come in and try to be this perfect looking being. He actually looked like he was thinking about something and he actually looked at me, instead of just hoping that he looked good at that moment and was fixated on his pose. He was quite perfect for it.

Official ‘New Moon’ Release Date Set
“New Moon” is coming out in less than a year after “Twilight” opened big at U.S. theaters. Following report that the first sequel to the vampire drama has been tentatively set for late November 2009 release, Summit Entertainment have come out with an announcement that “New Moon” will indeed be debuted in theaters on November 20, 2009, as reported by Variety.
Of the schedule, Summit distribution topper Richie Fay commented, “Same time, same place. If it’s also the same gross, we’ll be very pleased. Hopefully, we’ll have even better results.” However, unlike “Twilight” which has to face competition from another newcomer “Bolt”, “New Moon” will have to be up against serious contenders since “Sherlock Holmes”, “The Three Stooges” and “Planet 51″ are all slated for the particular date.
Based on Stephenie Meyer’s second novel from the “Twilight” series, “New Moon” will chronicle the time Bella Swan is left devastated by the abrupt departure of Edward Cullen. Finding solace in her friendship with Jacob Black, she soon finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves and her loyalty to the vampires tested due to the fact that werewolves are the ancestral enemies of the vampires.
Penned by “Twilight” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, this next Summit romance drama will be directed by “The Golden Compass” director Chris Weitz. It expects the return of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as Cullen and Swan, while Taylor Lautner, the actor who plays Black in the first movie has been rumored to potentially be replaced.

Kristen Stewart, star of vampire romancer Twilight, made an appearance in our New Regime lineup. Here’s a full Q&A with the preciously precocious young lady, where she talks about being Bella, living life as a working actress, and the authority issues that lead her to read Camus, Steinbeck, and Bukowski on her own.
You got your start as a child. Did you always see yourself acting into adulthood?
It was never a preconceived thing. It was always arbitrary, I think. Subsequently, I became very passionate about acting. Now, there is no reason for me to stop doing this.What impact did working with Sean Penn on Into the Wild have on you?
It definitely opened my eyes to a different creative process. His direction is very specific, but still, he lets things happen. He just wants you to go for it. Once he picks his characters, he gives you that confidence. Plus, I really enjoyed working with Emile [Hirsch]. He’s such a good friend of mine. That was like a little section of my life. It was very fruitful.How did that contrast to making Twilight?
Well, as much as we all had control over our characters, we were trying to portray something that already existed in book form, so it was very different.One hates to use the word, but how do you feel about being part of a franchise?
I accepted the role of Bella Swan because it was something I felt compelled to do, even though I thought was very ambitious. I knew that we had a devoted fan base, but I thought it was exclusive. I thought it was going to be a cult movie. Well, I was wrong. But it’s good because I’m so used to working on small indie movies and putting so much time into them, and then they never see the light of day.
